Students appearing in the 2026 Matriculation and Intermediate examinations across Punjab will now be required to undergo digital biometric attendance verification, marking a major shift in how board exams are conducted in the province.
The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting held at the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Lahore, where senior education officials reviewed wide-ranging reforms aimed at modernizing the examination system and restoring public trust.
Biometric Verification at Exam Centers
Under the new policy, all registered candidates will be digitally verified through biometrics before entering examination centers. Officials said this step will ensure that only genuine students appear in exams and will completely block impersonation and fake candidates.
Biometric attendance is expected to be rolled out uniformly across all nine boards of Punjab, making it acompulsory requirement for Matric and Inter exams starting in 2026.
High-Level Meeting and Key Participants
The meeting was chaired by Muzammil Mehmood, Chairman of the Task Force Committee on Boards. Senior officials in attendance included:
-
Nauman Jameel, Additional Secretary Higher Education Boards
-
Rizwan Nazeer, Secretary Lahore Board
-
Tauseef ur Rehman, Controller of Examinations
-
Secretaries and Controllers from all nine provincial boards
Major Reforms in Practical Examinations
Officials also addressed long-standing concerns regarding practical exams, which have often been criticized for:
-
Unfair marking
-
Favoritism and recommendations
-
Weak monitoring and oversight
To address these issues, authorities agreed that practical exams will now be conducted and evaluated with the same strictness as theory papers. A proposal to introduce standardized assessment criteria across all boards was discussed to ensure uniform marking and eliminate subjective grading.
CCTV Monitoring & Digital Marking System
To further strengthen transparency, the installation of CCTV cameras in laboratories during practical exams was proposed. According to officials, video surveillance will help curb cheating, external interference, and undue influence.
Additionally, a digital marking system is under consideration. Under this system:
-
Theory and practical marks will be entered electronically
-
Manual handling of results will be reduced
-
Chances of tampering and human error will be minimized
Better Pay for Exam Staff
The meeting also discussed increasing compensation for examination supervisors and staff. Officials believe improved remuneration will reduce susceptibility to pressure and encourage honest and professional conduct during exams.
Zero-Tolerance Policy Against Corruption
Task Force Chairman Muzammil Mehmood emphasized a strict zero-tolerance policy, warning that legal action will be taken against anyone using bribery, political influence, or personal connections to manipulate exam results.
Education authorities said these reforms will especially benefit hardworking students who previously felt disadvantaged due to lack of influence.
Implementation Before Exam Season
Meanwhile, Lahore BISE spokesperson Tahir Javed confirmed that detailed technical guidelines and implementation plans will be shared with schools and examination centers well before the 2026 examination season.
What This Means for Students
With biometric verification, CCTV monitoring, digital marking, and stricter evaluations, the Punjab education boards aim to usher in a more transparent, fair, and credible examination system in 2026—one where merit truly matters.
This reform is expected to significantly reduce cheating, impersonation, and unfair practices, bringing long-awaited relief to students across the province.
